Yesterday our very favourite Agnes turned three years old and this of course means we sent her a card. I decided to use Wplus9’s adorable elephant from Unforgettable in combination with Sunshine Layers and a balloon.
I used my PrismaColor pencils to colour in the elephant and her little party hat. For some reason I struggled using these elephants to begin with but now it seems I’ve found a way to colour them and that means I want to use them too.
Shaker elements are just plain fun and so perfect for smaller children. So for Agnes’ card it seemed very appropriate to have the balloon be a shaker. I die cut it directly into my background before I used distress inks to add some blue to the sky. To complete the sense of the balloon (and the elephant) flying through the sky, I added a sun, some clouds and well yes some stars… Guess, the stars should be seen mostly as reflections in the sky – at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I filled the shaker with brightly coloured little thingies that I got in Papertrey Ink’s shaker set from last year. I don’t know what these things are but they are absolutely perfect for shakers. I’ve tried finding some online and it seems you can buy some that look very similar on Etsy, which I just might do!
Today is a holiday in Germany but I hope that Merle.de’s birthday card arrived in time for her birthday nonetheless. I wanted to do a cute girly card for her and I went with an almost exact replica of Kara’s beautiful card with some minor additions and changes.
I’ve struggled with actually using these cute elephants but I really liked how Kara used and coloured it on her version of this card. So the very light colouring was something I knew I wanted to keep.
One of the changes I made relates to the sentiment: Instead of stamping a big sentiment, I diecut Merle’s name using Sizzix’ Alphanumric dies. Before adhering the letters to the card I added Wink of Stella to them. Above these letters I added a small sentiment in a very light pink colour.
Another thing that I added to my card is the little black bird. It has come to represent the meaning of Merle’s name and I’ve used a little black bird on all her birthday cards. So it had to fit in somewhere on the card. Here it rests its wing sitting for the foot of the rainbow.
Happy birthday, Merle!
I’ve once again joined Online Card Classes for their latest class on masking: Mask-erade. Yesterday was the very first day and we dealt with ways of using masking paper. I have wanted to add some masking paper to my stash for a long while but now I finally got around to buying it. Thankfully, it arrived in time for class to begin.
I started by creating my version of a technique presented by Debbie Hughes and I stayed fairly close to her design although I did alter the colours somewhat. I will say that I love how different the three cards turned out – all from just changing the colours.
Because my circle was a little larger than Debbie’s, I felt a need to add a little more flowers and length to the flower arrangement. This was easily done because the flower set has lots of little flowers too.
