Happy Birthday, Nora

Today is a special day in Oakland: Nora turns one! We’ve sent a card and hopefully it has made its way across the big sea in time for the little lady’s birthday – if not it is enroute.

The penguin comes from the adorable Cool Buddies set from Create a Smile and the speech buble and the sentiment is from Penguin Party also from Create a Smile. I coloured the penguin using my Prismacolor Pencils and I must say I am still really happy with those pencils. They blend beautifully and are so easy to work with. Naturally, you can tell the difference between images painted with Copics (or similar markers) and images coloured with pencils.

For the background I used the technique learned at the latest Online Card Classes’ Class of using Black Soot Distress Ink to create the darker night sky. And once I’d done that I used the Starry Night Stencil from Hero Arts to add moons and stars to the night sky using embossing paste. Love that stuff! It creates so much texture and dimension without being too busy.
