Smil til fotografen / Smile to the photographer

Sizzix has launced a new line of free downloadable papers with a baby theme. There are papers for little boys and little girls but I’d actually say you could use many of the papers for non-baby projects. I went with a baby theme though scrapbooking a picture of baby Signe. The picture of Signe is mounted on a piece of the patterned paper from the free set.

For both the boys and the girls there’s a sheet of diecuts that can be printed as well. I chose to use many of them on the left side of my layout. Using all of these elements made the page come together quickly and gives it a fun, casual look.

The little bird is also part of the diecut sheet and I fuzzy cut around it and mounted it on foam adhesive to give it some dimension. Oh – and see I’ve gotten a new sewing machine because my 30+ years Husqwarna gave up a few weeks ago. The new one is also a Husqwarna and it works like a charm. Makes me very happy to once again be able to stitch on my projects.

Finding titles for baby pages seem to always be a challenge… You can only use the same generic titles so many times. But I went with something sort of generic this time around.

If you decide to download the papers and make something using them I’d love a link to come see what you’ve been up to.

Lille stjerne

When Sus sent me a new picture of Signe, I simply had to scrap it asap. Luckily, I had a piece of red and white dotted paper (one of Sizzix’ free digital papers from Christmas time) that matched the colours of Signe’s clothes perfectly.

The squares with the diecut stars are from a Studio Calico kit and they worked really well for this layout. I mixed and matched the stars and the negative spaces on two of the diecuts. For the third of the stars I added a double layer of vellum behind the star as well as two enamel dots.

I decided to make a tone-on-tone title (or part of) on a black piece of cardstock. Instead of spelling out the word star (stjerne in Danish), I diecut a star in silver glitter paper and added it to the title piece.

In order to break up the grid I added a label and a word sticker to the upper right corner of the photo. I embellished this group with a few enamel dots.

Hallo – layout using digital papers

I was so inspired by the free digital Valentine’s papers I used yesterday that I wanted to use them for a layout. I decided on a picture of Signe where the colours are somewhat muted so they wouldn’t compete with colours and patterns of the papers.

Nearly every time I create layouts for very young children like Signe, I struggle with titles… You can only use their names or something like “too cute” so many times. This time I took the easy way out and used Sizzix’ Phrase, Hello #2 die to diecut a Hello from dark grey felt. I used some of the printable embellishments and a few enamel dots to decorate the title with.

As always I needed a way to add a date to the layout and I went with a simple diecut using a Thinlits Basics die stamped with the date.
