Ellen 2 years

Today Ellen turns 2 two and that means we’ve sent her a card celebrating her day. When I made Agnes’ card I also had an idea for another card in my head. This card ended up as Ellen’s birthday card. For this card I did the background using watercolours because I wanted a very subtle background with grass as well as a blue sky.

Once the background had dried (and had spend a few hours under something heavy to be straigthened out) I was able to die cut the balloon directly into the background. I filled the balloon with plenty of sequins which I’ve lately discovered makes a lot of sense because the shaker elements look better with more sequins in it (at least I think so). I added some clouds, a smiling sun and even some raindrops to complete the sky above the elephant.

I used Prismacolor Pencils and Zest-It to colour the elephant and prior to attaching it to the card I tied a yellow bow around its trunk so that it would look like the balloon was tied to the trunk of the elephant. I stamped Ellen’s name and age to the right of the elephant and finally I stamped some tiny tufts of grass along the top of my water colour grass.

Kitty in trouble…

(Yep, there’s an apostrophe missing in the sentiment.
I’ve added one since it is actually missing from the stamp!)

When I got the My Favorite Things: I Knead You, K suggested a do a card where the kitty lying on his back was tangled in string. I got rather surprised by his suggestion and had to show him this card by Jennifer Mcguire. Obviously, K hadn’t seen it but his idea was pretty close to Jennifer’s – not bad for a non-stamper, I’d say! For the overall design of the card I stayed very close to Jennifer’s although I changed the colours and I chose a patterned paper rather than stamping on the background. I did do the little loop of twine next to the sentiment because I found that to be such a cute detail.

The trouble with K’s idea was that he wanted the string to both go under the kitty’s paws and across his chest. Jennifer only has the string go under the paws but K wasn’t entirely satisfied with the realism of that look. So I had to put on my thinking cap to see if I could satisfy K’s vision. What I ended up doing was cutting the paws free (and colouring their outlines black to make them look better) and pulled the string under each paw. After that I took a second piece of string and tied it around the chest of the kitty. This way I got exactly the look K was after: My kitty now is realistically entwined in the string 🙂 And I couldn’t help myself: I had to add one of the little mice to the scene. Just because they are too cute!

Congrats – welcome baby Sejr

A penpal from my youth just had a baby last week and I knew I wanted to send her and her son a little something. And with a little something you have to have a card. I was very inspired by this card by Nichol Magouirk.

But I did want to add a little prince-frog to the mix, just because he is totally adorable and Louise’s little son is certainly her little prince. I coloured him using Prismacolor pencils and Zest-it to blend. For the crown I added both Wink of Stella and glossy accent to make sure it stood out as a fancy crown.

Nichol Magouirk had added Wink of Stella to the rainbow and I loved that look so I had to do the same thing. And oh my, does that make the rainbow into something extraordinary! Love me some Wink of Stella.

To underscore the fact that this is a baby card, I stamped a little welcome-greeting inside the card and drew some lines around the sides of the card. While I don’t add something to the inside on every card, I do like it when I do so.

I added some glittery stars around the greeting and that finished this happy bright card. I am very happy with the results you can achieve with the new puffy clouds dies from Lawn Fawn and I can see myself using them often.

Endnu en gang tillykke, Louise
– og velkommen Sejr!

I’ve added this card into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes.

My Favorite Things: I Knead You

When my mother asked me to do a thank you card and preferably one with a cat on it, it gave me the perfect opportunity to branch out and actually buy a stamp set with cats. I had to look long and hard to find one I liked. But when I found My Favorite Things’ I Knead You the search was over! This set is absolutely adorable and I can see myself using the cats for many projects. And colouring these little guys is a lot of fun too.

While researching fun ways to use this stamp set, I came across Barbara Anders’ cute card using the kitty in the box and I wanted to do a card just like it for the thank you card. It was just the right amount of cutesy and the colours were spot on too. So off I went 🙂

What I’ve really come to love about colouring stamped images is that you can make them your very own. My kitty for this cat is a classic black and white one and I think he’s adorable (I had coloured him before I even started looking at designs for the card so I was just lucky that his colours fit with the black, white and read of the original card design).

Once I had my card done I was left with materials that were just right for another similar card. So, I decided to make a card for my card stash using the same general design but changing a few elements.

I left out the red on this card and went with a very simple colour scheme. This kitty was also one I had coloured prior to doing the cards, but he too fits perfectly in this colour scheme. To make the card a little less cute, I decided to change the hearts out for stars.

(I know the bow on the right is crooked – it’s been fixed)

Here are the two cards side by side: I often find that doing two very similar cards will actually yield two rather different results which to me is definitely the case here. Yes, the cards are based on the same scheme but changing colours, embellishments etc. makes the card diffferent from one another.

I’ve added these cards into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes.
