It is once more time to post my monthly Christmas card for Operation Skriv Hjem’s blog. This week I used a background I did for the recent Online Card Classes’ Mask-erade class. The background was made on a crisp white piece of paper that I embossed using an embossing folder with a large holly branch. I coloured the holly using a q-tip and distress inks. Once I had coloured the holly the crispness of the cardstock seemed all wrong so I went to town with more distress inks and a mini blending tool. This meant I ended up with a background on the more vintage-y side of things.
When it came time to create a card using this background, I wanted to underscore the vintage-y feel of the background. This meant I added lace, seam binding, a small strain of pearls, a tag with felt holly leaves and a small sentiment. For this to work I decided to turn the holly “upside down” so it looks like it is hanging from the bow.
The string of pearls is hiding behind the tag but it can still be seen peeking out here and there. When it came to the embellishment for the tag, I actually tried die-cutting it in white felt and then adding colour using distress inks. I didn’t like the colour I achieved so I simply diecut the leaves in a green felt, I had coloured in a few years ago. For the berries I added some red pearls.
