Embossed and coloured background

I’ve signed up for and participated in Online Card Classes’s latest class: Background Check which is all about creative ways of making backgrounds. Kristina Werner taught us how to add colours to embossed backgrounds and I must say that colouring really adds a lot to an embossed background. For my first attempt at this technique I used a Sizzix embossing folder and distress inks to colour the embossed areas. Initially, I used a dauber to add the colours but I quickly realised that I prefered using a q-tip because I felt it was easier to control.

When it came to designing the actual card, I took a cue from Kristina Werners design but took it in a slightly different direction. I added some rustic twine around the front of the card, a small stamped sentiment and some cobbery sequins.

I want my bows to have ends that look nice and this often leads me to glueing down a part of the ends of the bows. On this card I tucked one end under the sentiment and thereby keeping this end of the bow in place.

This background could look like it was just stamped (at least in photos) but the texture of the piece is really cool because of the embossing.

And just a final glimpse of the card where the sequins catch the light and show off their shine and shimmer.

I’ve added this card to Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge: Anything goes!
