I love wreaths – both on doors and on cards – for all seasons and therefore I had to make a card with a new Sizzix’ die called Floral Wreath #2. The die set comes with three dies: The wreath, the flowers for the wreath and a third die with small flower “banners”. I only used the wreath and the matching flower die for this card. For the patterned paper I went with a piece from Sizzix’ latest collection of free downloadable papers. One of my new favourite tricks is to tone down a patterned paper by overlaying it with a slightly smaller piece of vellum – this lets the pattern shine through but also gives the main focus room to “breathe”.
I diecut the wreath in my favourite green Bazzill colour (the now retired Parakeet) but I diecut the flowers in coloured printer paper which actually worked really well because it added less bulk than cardstock would have. In order to give the flowers some dimension I added some matching colours of inks to the tips of all the diecut shapes.
It isn’t often I decide to go with a sentiment that isn’t aligned horizontally but for this card I decided that a tilted banner wouldn’t be a bad idea. Maybe it works because the wreath and style of the card is more whimsical that many of my other cards?
