Stretch your stamps 2: Day 2

Moving right along here… It is actually day 5 of the class but I am just now getting around to posting my cards from day 2. They are both based on a beautiful ombre technique presented by Laura Sterckx – whose blog I btw warmly recommend.

I first did this green card and it while it isn’t a layered ombre effect it is still a card I am really happy with. I didn’t have a background stamp you I used a PTI background builder stamp which definitely was a lot of work but also well worth it – I adore this pattern.

I struggled coming up with the right banner for the sentiment but I am happy with the combination of a stamp and die from Wplus9 and a small sentiment from a Papetrey Ink stamp set – love mixing and matching.

Card #2 came out in a more traditional ombre effect but it didn’t fade to white at the top – something I’ll have to try and perfect by making more of these backgrounds. Once again I build up the background using a background building set from Papertrey Ink before I added the pink colours.

I wanted a different look for the sentiment on this card and went with a new Sizzix stamp and die set and embossed the sentiment in pink rather than white. It was actually possible to cut very thin slices of foam adhesive and hide them behind the embossed sentiment. Yeah!

This was a really enjoyable technique and one that lends itself to all my background building stamps – and to the background stamps that just might end up in my basket next time I shop stamps.
