Papertrey Ink Blog Hop October

I am joining in Papertrey Ink’s blog hop for October and this month the inspiration photo contains traditional fall colours, shapes and items. While I wanted to keep to the fall theme I also wanted to break away from the very literal interpretation of the photo.

The first thing that caught my eye was actually the green dotted fabric on top of the pile of fabrics; I love dots so I had to use a green dotted paper as the base of the card.

In order to avoid the “pumpkin trap” I focused on the acorns. Sadly, I don’t own the acorn PTI set but I did have an old set of Basic Grey felt embellishments that contained a single felt acorn. While I didn’t notice it until now when I am writing up my blog post, I see that the photo contains a fabric that has a wood pattern and I’ve used a paper with a similar pattern.

I wanted to add some orange to the card without it becoming too overwhelming. I simple added a tab and a small button.

While I do love stitching on my paper projects it seemed to be absolutely essential to add some stitching to this card since the inspiration photo is of sewn pumpkins. My stitching is just a simple frame around the card but I love how it adds dimension.

I’ve used 2009 Autumn tags as well as Think Big Favorites #7. The papers are from Scenic Route and Jillibean, the tab from October Afternoon, the acorn is by Basic Grey. Other items include seam binding, jute, small pearl.
